ROLLING LADDERS

A rolling ladder moves where the job is and locks solidly in place once you're on it, so you're not carrying a fixed ladder around the floor. We stock painted steel, aluminum, and stainless models, plus rolling ladders with platforms for tasks that need both hands free at the top. A rolling platform ladder is worth the upgrade for stock picking, maintenance, and any job that takes more than a minute at height. Every ladder here is OSHA- and ANSI-compliant. Call us with your height and application, and we'll match you to the right model.

Rolling Ladder Safety

Rolling ladders can be extremely helpful in an industrial setting, come with sturdy handrails, and are very safe.

These Safety Guidelines Add To Safe Ladder Use:

Perform Regular Inspections. Before climbing on the ladder, test the brakes. They should maintain a locked position behind the casters. Inspect rubber attachments that touch the floor, and make sure they’re intact. Shake the handrail to confirm that screws stay secure.

Stick to the Rules. Only one person at a time should use a rolling ladder unless it’s designed for two. Ensure that the total amount of your body weight plus the tools and equipment you carry doesn’t exceed the maximum load. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Rely on a Helper. Don’t carry a full load up the ladder. First, reach the top, then a buddy should hand you things from the floor. When you need to get off the ladder and push it somewhere, your buddy can stand in front to make sure the path is clear.

Maintain a Stable Position. Your body should have three points of contact on a rolling ladder. Keep your two hands on the railings and one foot on the stairs. Or keep one hand on the railing and two feet on the stairs. For stability, wear dry, slip-proof shoes.

OSHA and ANSI Compliant Rolling Ladders

Platformsandladders.com is committed to safety in every element of our ladders. Because of this, they conform to OSHA and ANSI standards. All of our ladders are equipped with rungs and steps that are flat and evenly spaced, and the steps are all made from or coated with a slip-proof material.

Popular Models of Rolling Ladder

One of our aims is to provide a wide range of options for every use. Each ladder is available with multiple options for the best fit. The M-2000 is a good example of how many variants can be available. This rolling ladder has options for 16” and 24” inch widths, multiple options for 14”, 21”, and 28” deep top steps. Each of these has four different types of tread and between 5 and 15 stairs resulting in almost 50 different variations to choose from.

Many of our rolling ladders have a list of additional options for accessories such as signs, exits for the right, left, or rear, and fold-down rails. Each ladder can be customized to fit the exact needs of any customer.

One of the most versatile ladders is the stock-picking rolling ladder. With up to 12 steps, the ladder comes with shelving underneath the ladder to load and transport items. They are easy to transport, but lock in place to ensure safety while using the ladder. The system can have up to 3 shelves and has a total weight capacity of up to 600 pounds.

50-degree ladders are the perfect solution for use in transporting items up and down. This is because the tilt of the steps allows for workers to safely descend the ladder while facing forward. The lift table ladder makes transporting stock up and down even easier by using a lift table that can carry up to 300 pounds and be operated with the push of a button. This promotes the health and safety of workers while getting the job done faster.

For environments that require workers to access multiple heights with one ladder, we often recommend The G Series which is easily adjustable for height and self-leveling. This ladder is sturdy with a large workspace but is also built on casters that allow it to be moved easily by just one person. The ladder can be used indoors and outdoors with safety with a tread that makes it safe in any weather.

Our rolling ladders are built with the customer in mind. There are many different customizations and options to choose from and they are all built for safety and ease of use. Contact us today to find the option that best fits your company’s needs.

How To Spec a Rolling Ladder

Before you order, it helps to settle a few things about the application: how steep a climb your team is comfortable with, how high they need to reach, and whether the ladder should lock automatically or roll freely. Those choices shape both safety and how quickly the ladder pays for itself.

Slope and Climbing Style

Standard incline ladders climb at roughly 57 to 60 degrees for a compact footprint, while 50-degree walk-down models let you descend facing forward with your hands full. Steeper takes up less floor; shallower is easier to climb when you are carrying a load.

Height, Top Step, and Platform

Match the step count to your working height, then size the top step to the task. A deep top step or a rolling ladder with platform gives someone room to stand and use both hands, which pays off for stocking, assembly, or maintenance when the worker will be up there for a while.

Mobility and Locking

Spring-loaded casters retract under a worker's weight, so the ladder settles onto its feet and locks the moment someone steps on, then lifts it back to roll freely when the worker steps off. Weight-actuated lock-step models lock as soon as weight lands on the steps, and tilt-and-roll units move like a wheelbarrow for quick repositioning across the floor.

Why Platforms and Ladders Is Your Best Choice for Rolling Ladders

Since 2014 we've helped purchasing agents order access equipment that fits the first time. Because we carry lines from many manufacturers, you get the rolling ladder your application needs rather than the one unit a single catalog is pushing. When a standard model won't do, we build custom rolling ladders to your dimensions, with a drawing you approve before production. Our staff knows these products, and we'll often match a lower price on an identical ladder. Our GSA contract and MBE certification make public and enterprise orders easy.

Let Us Point You to the Right Rolling Ladder

Tell us your working height, the heaviest load someone will carry up, and where the ladder needs to travel, and we'll match you to a standard model or quote a custom one. We will also shop freight rates, so delivery is handled for you. Contact us online or call (888) 802-3651, and we'll take it from there.

Rolling Ladder FAQs

  • A standard rolling ladder has a top step you climb to and reach from. A rolling platform ladder adds a larger top platform, usually with a guard rail, so a worker can stand and use both hands for longer stretches. Quick-reaching jobs are fine on the step, but stocking or assembly up top is safer and less tiring on a platform.

  • OSHA requires mobile ladder stands to be built for at least four times their rated load, casters included. Working ratings vary by model. Our stock-picking rolling ladders, for example, are rated for a total weight capacity of up to 600 pounds. Tell us the heaviest load you expect, and we'll match the duty rating.

  • Under OSHA, once the top step sits 4 feet or more above the floor, the ladder needs handrails set between 29.5 and 37 inches above the step. Every rolling ladder we sell in that height range comes with them, so you pass inspection without a retrofit.

  • Yes. Tilt-and-roll and tip-and-roll models ride on large wheels and move like a wheelbarrow over uneven ground, and aluminum builds stay light and rust-resistant for outdoor or dock use. On smooth indoor floors, spring-loaded casters that lock underfoot are usually the better choice.
